Sir Robert Chiltern, a prestigious member of the House of Commons, has it all - money, influence and a beautiful wife. What could possibly go wrong?
The play opens with Sir Robert and his wife, Lady Gertrude Chiltern, hosting dinner with family members and friends, including Lord Goring, a dandified bachelor, and his sister, Mabel Chiltern.
Another member of the party is Mrs Cheveley who knows secrets from Sir Robert's past and threatens to expose him to public shame and bring an end to both his stellar political career and his blissful marriage.
