Auditions Call...

Our Autumn play will be a comedy thriller 'The Lady Vanishes', based on a novel by Ethel Lina White. 

Auditions will be held in the Morrell Room, Streatley RG8 9HT on:

     at 7.45pm

Author:

Ethel Lina White wrote her novel 'The Wheel Spins' in 1936 and was adapted in 1938 by Alfred Hitchcock as the film 'The Lady Vanishes'.  This stage adaptation by Derek Webb in 2018 is based on the original book.

Synopsis:

On a train headed for England is a mixed group of travellers, one of which, a wealthy young woman – Iris Carr – befriends elderly Miss Froy. But then, after lunch, Iris wakes to find Miss Froy has disappeared. Mysteriously, the other passengers deny Miss Froy ever existed.  What secrets are the sinister Doctor, the fierce Baroness, the so-called honeymoon couple, the vicar and his wife and the garrulous spinster twins hiding?

Iris Carr
wealthy, headstrong, but very likeable and sociable 

Miss Froy
warm hearted, gregarious and generous

Max Hare
cheerful, very capable

Todhunter
blustering, domineering, actually Lord Brown incognito

‘Mrs Todhunter’
actually Mrs Parmiter, having an affair with Lord Brown

Miss Evelyn Flood-Porter

very opinionated, rather overbearing 

Miss Rose Flood-Porter
her sister, less overbearing but just as opinionated

Rev Kenneth Barnes
amiable, but rather ineffectual and sickly

Mrs Barnes
his wife, she wears the trousers, a definite chatterbox

The Baroness
austere, dominant, a character you don’t want to mess with

Frau Kummer

stern Eastern European, hardly a barrel of laughs

The Doctor
Eastern European ‘doctor’, rather creepy

The Professor
slightly pompous, but warm, doesn’t like to be proved wrong​
