Synopsis of 'An Ideal Husband'
Sir Robert Chiltern is a rising politician whose honorable reputation is his greatest asset. His wife, Lady Gertrude, admires him as an 'ideal husband'.
During a dinner party for their friends, Mrs Cheveley, a former acquaintance of Lady Chiltern, appears and exposes a scandal from Chiltern's past and threatens to ruin his career and marriage.
When Lady Chiltern discovers the truth of her husband's past, her admiration turns to heartbreak and tells him she can no longer love him.
Lord Goring, Chiltern's witty, but seemingly idle friend, steps in to help resolve the situation. The play culminates in a classic Wildean blend of wit and drama - exploring themes of corruption, forgiveness and true integrity.
