Set in the 1960s, this tale follows Gillian Holroyd, a witch living in a city apartment who secretly performs spells through her cat, Pyewacket. She casts a spell over her unattached tenant Anthony Henderson, partly to keep him away from a rival and partly because she is attracted to him. Anthony falls head over heels in love with her at once and wants to marry her. Gillian begins to feel unknown emotions, but, unfortunately, witches cannot fall in love and this minute imperfection leads into a number of difficulties.
